Army reinforcements land at Pietermaritzburg Airport

There was an increased visibility of police and troops today following two days of chaos and mayhem in the capital.

Today, the CBD of Pietermaritzburg was filled with desperate residents seeking groceries, fuel and medication.

Angry residents are demanding to know why state security forces were so thin on the ground during the height of the violence and looting.

Residents and private security companies having been at the forefront assisting police and their limited resources to attend to hotspots and keep suburbs safe from further looting.

Looters leave little in the Capital City

The streets of Pietermaritzburg were left littered with the boxes and packaging of items that were looted on Monday by protesters.

The SANDF along with SAPS and community members have been patrolling the city to ensure there is no further protest action or looting. All stores, shopping centres and petrol stations in the CBD remain closed.
