Attorney gunned down at his home in Mokopane

Schalk Pienaar (69) was shot several times as he tried to run back into his house.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered a prompt probe into the murder of a well-known attorney in Mokopane.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Schalk Pienaar (69) was at home with his wife on Monday night, when an intruder opened fire.

“Preliminary investigations show the victim was shot several times and it seemed he tried to run back into the house but collapsed. Several spent cartridges and projectiles were found in front of the house and inside the garage,” he explained.

Ledwaba said the motive for Pienaar’s killing is unknown and will be subject to ongoing investigations. He confirmed that a manhunt is currently underway for the suspect(s).

Hadebe appealed to residents to assist with any information that can lead to the apprehension of those involved.
