Baby dumped in Evander drain: Police seek mother

A newborn was taken to hospital after being found in a drain.

A woman who gave birth in an open field in Evander, near Gert Sibande College in Mpumalanga, allegedly dumped her baby in a drain.

According to Evander SAPS’ Sergeant Zuki Mxhotyelwa, the woman gave birth at 06:30 yesterday.

Police found the placenta on the grass close to where the infant was dumped, says Mxhotyelwa.

“The baby was spotted by a pedestrian who contacted the police and emergency services.

“The baby was rescued and taken to hospital for medical attention.”

Police are looking for the woman or anyone with information about her whereabouts. Anyone with information can contact the Evander police at 060 815 4630.
