Bail ruling in Zandspruit mob case postponed

On Wednesday morning, September 8 the 13 men and a woman arrested for the Zandspruit vigilante attack made yet another appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.

Judgement in the accused’s bail application has been reserved until September 14 after the State opposed bail and submitted a number of reasons.

According to the State the suspects are quite dangerous and if they were to be granted bail it would be undermining public order in Zandspruit as it is a very fragile community.

The 14 are accused of beating and setting alight nine young men in Zandspruit in May. Four of the victims died on the scene, while four others later died in hospital. Only one victim survived.

Tebogo Mabula, Mziwamangware Witbooi, Njabulo Zwane, Phakisa Tsengiwe, Maxwell Mpofu, Klaas Masemola, Joshua Mabotze, Alfred Mollo, Everyone Moyo, Phillimon Seemela, Douglas Tshuma, Charles Ramoshia, Phiwe Khubeka and Peter Mufomadi face charges of murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping.
