Bakkie plunges over cliff: Deceased identified

No foul play is suspected at this stage and police have opened an inquest docket for further investigation.

The person who tragically died yesterday in the latest incident on the road to Voëlklip, has been identified as Conrad Maree (33). Maree, originally from Krugersdorp, moved to George in 2021.

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, the alarm was raised after Maree did not arrive for work yesterday morning, Tuesday 8 February.

The tracking system installed in the bakkie Maree was travelling in led the search party to the scene of the accident where the vehicle and his body were found at the bottom of a cliff.

No foul play is suspected at this stage and police have opened an inquest docket for further investigation.

This is the fifth vehicle that has gone down the cliffs on this road since Heidi Scheepers and her two children went over the edge at Hansie se Bank in October 2019.
