Banyana Banyana’s Thubelihle Shamase nominated for award
South Africa’s midfielder, the only South African footballer nominated for the Young Player of the Year award, will be contending against players from Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda.

Banyana Banyana midfielder Thubelihle Shamase was yesterday listed as a nominee for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Young Player of the Year at the Caf 2023 awards.
At the recent 2023 Women’s Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Tournament, Shamase scored five goals for Banyana Banyana. She was chosen as part of the Group Stage Best 11 Cosafa Team.
Shamase is the only South African footballer nominated for the award.

She’ll be contending against Ghana’s Comfort Yeboah and Mary Amponsah, Moroccan international Nesryne El Chad, and Nigerians Deborah Abiodun, Esther Ajakaye, and Oluwatosin Demehin. Hapsatou Diallo of Senegal, Winifreda Gerald of Tanzania, and Fauzia Najjemba of Uganda have also been nominated.

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis was listed as one of the nominees for coach of the year, while Andile Dlamini, Hilda Magaia, Jermaine Seoposenwe, Linda Motlhalo, Refiloe Jane, and Thembi Kgatlana were nominated for Women’s Player of the Year.
