A woman died after a rock thrown from a bridge struck her vehicle on the R24 east of Johannesburg, reports Bedfordview Edenvale News.
Bedfordview SAPS have opened a murder docket after a woman died when a rock was thrown from the Van Der Linde Road Bridge onto her vehicle on Friday (August 14).
The confirmation was contained in a statement released by Bedfordview SAPS station commander Colonel TW Mathiane.
Police said the incident happened on the R24 split towards the N12 northbound, near the bridge.
“Officers who responded to the scene found a grey Honda with a female driver inside. The vehicle had damage to its windscreen and front bumper,” Mathiane said.
“The woman had suffered serious head injuries and was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical services,” Mathiane said.
“According to an eyewitness, the rock had allegedly been dropped from the bridge onto the vehicle while it was travelling on the road,” Mathiane said.
The impact caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which subsequently collided with the barriers.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist the investigation to contact Bedfordview SAPS.
