Blazing fire in Marlboro claims the life of a man
ALEXANDRA — It is believed that the cause of the fire was a burning candle as there was no electricity.
A man was burnt to death in a raging fire in Marlboro’s 4th Street and his remains were found among the ashes of various other destroyed items.
Several shacks where affected during the fire and according to Sibongile Mkhize, who runs Banakekeleni Orphanage not far from where the fire started, the cause of the fire was believed to be a burning candle from one of the shacks as they did not have any electricity.
It is believed the fire started at 11pm on May 11 and it was so fierce that its smoke engulfed the entire street.

City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Service (EMS) spokesperson Nana Radebe told Alex News that the EMS received a call regarding the burning shacks at exactly 11.10pm and by the time they arrived on the scene, the fire had already spread to other shacks. Radebe said about 10 shacks went up in smoke as the fire was spreading too fast.
Mkhize has already appealed for assistance for the fire victims who could barely salvage anything from the raging fire.
