Body found hanging from litchi tree
The body of a man was found hanging from a litchi tree in Redcliffe in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal.
It is alleged a passerby alerted a local security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), on Wednesday morning after discovering the body, Phoenix Sun reported.
Head of RUSA Prem Balram confirmed a woman contacted the RUSA headquarters yesterday to report the suicide.
“Reaction officers and paramedics proceeded to the scene and found a man of Indian descent believed to be approximately 1.8 metres in height and attired in a blue check shirt and light brown jeans,” said Balram.
The identity of the deceased has been confirmed and his next-of-kin have been informed, added Balram.
“The suicide rate in Verulam is cause for concern, as reaction officers and RUSA paramedics respond to more call outs with regards to suicides and attempted suicides,” said Balram.
“We often discover that relationships, domestic issues and financial problems seem to be the reasons that are forcing more people to tragically end their lives by opting for suicide,” added Balram.
An appeal is made to the public to seek assistance for family and friends that display suicidal tendencies, said Balram.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a man’s body was found hanged from a tree in an open plot in Glen Austin, Midrand, in October last year.
Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed the man’s body was discovered hanged from a tree in the open plot by a man and his workers at 6.30am.
Tlamela added a black rope was tied around the man’s neck.
