Body found in KZN forest: Murder case opened
Police have launched an investigation into a man’s death after his partially decomposed body was found by people walking in a forest.
The police in Mtubatuba have opened a case of murder after a body was found in a gumtree forest on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa says the murder occurred in the Shikishela area, where the body of a man was found by members of the community who were walking in the forest.
“The deceased is unknown in the area. He had bruises on his face and it looked like he was assaulted,” says Hlabisa.
The body was partially decomposed, he adds.
The discovery of the body has shocked locals and elicited a word of condemnation from Mayor Mxolisi Mthethwa.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I address the recent tragic event in our community. This morning, a man was found dead in the Shikishela area, in what can only be described as a brutal and senseless act of violence,” says Mthethwa.
The mayor sent condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“This act of violence is not just an attack on one individual, but an assault on the very fabric of our community. We will not tolerate such heinous actions, and I assure the members of the community that our law enforcement agencies will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
“I urge anyone with information about this crime to come forward and assist the police in their investigation. It is only by working together that we can ensure the safety and security of our community,” says Mthethwa.
