A case of murder has been opened after the body of a kidnapped Benoni businessman was found in Brakpan yesterday afternoon.
According to police information, the 68-year-old was kidnapped in Benoni on Saturday morning.
The kidnapping was reported to Benoni police.
On Sunday, the victim’s family received a ransom demand of $3m (approximately R55m).
Brakpan police were alerted to the discovery of a body at around 15:00 and proceeded to an open veld at the corner of Heidelberg and Rangeview roads in Dalpark Ext 6.
The victim was bruised but the cause of death could not be determined at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
