A 15-year-old Grade Nine learner from Reiger Park Secondary School in Boksburg was arrested during a routine police search at the school for possession of three live rounds of ammunition.

The search was conducted on Tuesday by Reiger Park SAPS members, patrollers, Gauteng crime prevention wardens and volunteers from the community.

The learner was released and scheduled to appear in court.

“The focus of the search was grade eight and nine classes. We confiscated various items, including an Okapi knife, two Viper knives, cigarettes and alcohol,” says Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga.

He emphasises the importance of parental involvement in monitoring and guiding children, and issues a stern warning that learners found in possession of contraband will face the full consequences of the law.

“Parents are urged to be vigilant, check their children’s belongings regularly and actively participate in guiding them away from engaging in unlawful activities,” he adds.
