Brits cops arrested for allegedly stealing robbers’ loot
The duo were nabbed after the arrest of nine armed robbers who fled from a business robbery in Thabazimbi, Limpopo.
Police corruption is again in the spotlight, after police officers were arrested for allegedly pocketing the loot of robbers they had just arrested.
This after two police officers of the Brits Tactical Response Team were arrested on Friday after allegedly robbing robbers of their loot.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sambatha Mokgwabone says the police officers were arrested for theft and corruption.
“The police members allegedly searched the suspects of a business robbery, and took cash from the suspects’ pockets,” he adds.
According to information, the two police officers were at a crime scene near Brits where nine armed robbers were caught and arrested after fleeing from an armed robbery in Thabazimbi, Limpopo.
The police officers are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court today. “Investigation into the matter is underway,” Mokgwabone says.
Robbery
Kormorant reported that 10 armed robbers in two vehicles fled towards Brits after robbing a well-known retail store in the Limpopo town.
PPS Security in Brits was alerted by police in Thabazimbi and vehicles were dispatched to look out for the fleeing robbers. Members of the Crocodile Community Protection Group joined the search.
“We spotted the robbers’ Mercedes and Toyota Quantum at the railway crossing at Klipkop. When the robbers saw the security vehicles, they opened fire. Security officers returned fire. One of the suspects managed to run away, but our officers caught the remaining nine. Two of the suspects were wounded,” says PPS Security owner Quintin Dunn.

Brits police arrested eight men and a woman at the scene.
“Firearms and many stolen items such as cellphones, laptops, TV sets and small generators were recovered in the two vehicles,” Dunn adds.
Mokgwabone confirmed the arrest of nine suspects.
