Brits man shot and killed while transporting workers home

A well-known Brits resident was murdered when armed men surrounded his vehicle and opened fire.

It is not clear why Oscar Wilson (46) was murdered on Friday, while taking workers to their homes in Oukasie in Brits. His vehicle, in which his attackers had fled, was later found abandoned.

Wilson, who worked for a garden service company in Brits, and two workers were traveling in a company bakkie when the incident occurred around 17:30.

Police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, says they were near the graveyard on the outskirts of Oukasie when they were accosted by five men with a firearm.

The men surrounded the vehicle and fired several shots, hitting Wilson in the upper body. He was dragged from the vehicle and the suspects drove away with it. Wilson died on the scene.

According to Nkabinde the two garden service workers jumped from the bakkie and fled on foot.

“The bakkie was later found abandoned close to the Wagpos High School. The suspects are still at large,” she says.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact Lieutenant Colonel Charmaine Jenner of Brits Detectives on 082 460 6581 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
