Bullets fly in two Pretoria cash-in-transit robberies on same day

Bullets flew in two unrelated cash-in-transit robberies in Pretoria yesterday.

In the first robbery, havoc ensued in Atteridgeville on Friday afternoon when four armed robbers attempted to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle.

One suspect was reportedly shot and killed, another one shot and wounded while two others fled the scene empty-handed following the foiled armed robbery.

Police were deployed to the Mmnandi Mall in Atteridgeville in Centurion after the four armed suspects attempted to rob the vehicle. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Brenda Muridili said the incident happened at around 15:00.

“The [cash-in-transit] crew got out of their vehicle and were approached by four armed men who pointed firearms at them,” Muridili said.

“A crew member managed to defend himself and allegedly shot one of the suspects.” Muridili said driver of the armoured vehicle was also shot and injured.

“The suspects fled the scene empty-handed,” Muridili said. Earlier on the same day in the morning, another attempted cash-in-transit heist took place in the north of Pretoria. This attempted heist left a guard dead, two other guards and a suspect injured. Muridili said the incident happened about 06:30 at Hornsnek M17 Road in Akasia.

“It is reported that a silver sedan rammed into a cash-in-transit van. One of the suspects was trapped in the vehicle that rammed into the cash van. Allegedly, several shots were fired before his accomplices fled the scene in two vehicles,” she said.

Police are still searching for all suspects in both incidents.
