Car stolen at OR Tambo airport recovered, arrests made

Members of the Brakpan SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrested two people last Friday in connection with a stolen vehicle. One suspect was nabbed in Brakpan and the other in Springs.

A breakthrough was made when police received a tip-off regarding a stolen vehicle which lead them to Anzac in Brakpan.

Brakpan police spokesperson, Captain Pearl van Staad says that police recovered an Opel, which was stolen at OR Tambo International Airport, during the week.

“On March 18, members received a tip-off about a possible stolen motor vehicle in Anzac. The recovery of the vehicle lead to the arrest of two suspects, aged 33 and 35,” says Van Staad.

She says that 0ne suspect will be charged for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and the other for theft of a motor vehicle.

She added that a preliminary investigation indicates the car’s registration plate was removed and replaced with a false one, as the disc and number plate did not correspond.

The suspects were expected to appear in court this week.
