Case against IEC official set to be heard in KZN court

An IEC area manager who has been in custody for nearly a month is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

The IEC official in custody for alleged contravention of the Electoral Act 73 of 1998 will return to court next week pending a decision on whether a criminal court or the Electoral Court should hear his case.

Musawenkosi Mnikathi, an IEC area manager in Msunduzi in KZN, who has been in custody for nearly a month, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

He was arrested on May 29 and is accused of moving voting materials without a police escort.

MK Party members opened the case after allegedly catching him and then accompanying him to the Plessislaer Police Station where he was charged with contravening Section 91 of the Electoral Act.
