Case withdrawn against teenagers in viral Carletonville assault

Despite footage showing the 18-year-old victim being kicked while on the ground, the complainant has opted for a ‘second chance’ approach.

Legal proceedings against two boys arrested for a violent assault in Carletonville have been dropped after the victim chose not to press charges.

The decision follows the viral spread of a video capturing the incident, which prompted a swift police response, reports Carletonville Herald.

According to a trusted source, the complainant withdrew the charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm against the two suspects, aged 14 and 15 respectively. One of the boys is a resident of Carletonville, while the other was visiting from Klerksdorp.

The source indicated that the victim has since recovered from his injuries. He reportedly stated that he did not wish to ruin the boys’ lives given their young age.

In the widely circulated footage, the two teenagers are seen approaching the 18-year-old victim. Although he attempts to turn away, one of the boys strikes him with such force on the right side of his head that he collapses. The same individual is then seen kicking the victim in the head while he is still on the ground.
