Cash-in-transit van bombed in Brakpan

It is believed around nine men were involved in the heist.

Three guards were injured during a cash-in-transit heist in Brakpan this morning.

According to information received from the local SAPS, the attack took place at around 9am.

The cash-in-transit van was travelling along Van Dyk Road, near the Brakpan Benoni Airfield, when it was struck by a beige Mercedes-Benz.

A witness reportedly told police two other vehicles were involved – another Mercedes-Benz and a bakkie.

It is believed around nine men were involved in the heist.

The robbers used explosives to bomb the van.

Three guards travelling in the van were slightly injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police investigations are well underway and officers are still on the scene.
