Centurion hijacking victim rescued, three arrested

Three men have been arrested in Krugersdorp after allegedly hijacking and kidnapping a man in Centurion, with one suspect threatening police officers before being apprehended.

Three men were arrested in Chamdor Industrial, Krugersdorp, after allegedly hijacking and kidnapping a man in Centurion yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said two Krugersdorp sergeants spotted a suspicious vehicle while driving from the Leratong Hospital in Krugersdorp.

She said when police stopped the vehicle, one occupant threatened them with a firearm.

“The members shot back, resulting in the suspects stopping their vehicle,” said Nevhuhulwi.

She said police searched the vehicle and found two men in the front and one man with his hands tied at the back.

“It was later established the victim was hijacked and kidnapped in the morning at Centurion.”

Nevhuhulwi said preliminary investigations led police to the third suspect in Naledi.

She said the suspect was found in possession of the victim’s hijacked bakkie.

“All three were arrested and are expected to appear in court soon on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, hijacking, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
