Child (9) drowns in Skukuza pool in KNP

A man performed CPR while waiting for medical help to arrive.

The body of a child was found floating in the pool at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park on Saturday.

The SANParks management conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family of the nine-year-old was visiting the KNP at the time of the incident.

The incident took place at the Skukuza day visitors’ area late in the afternoon.

According to a SANParks statement, a security officer on duty reported he found the deceased floating in the pool while he was doing his rounds.

“He jumped into the pool, pulled him out and performed CPR while waiting for medical assistance. Unfortunately, the child was pronounced dead by the Skukuza residential doctor who attended to the incident,” the statement reads.

“The SAPS were notified, and their forensics team removed the body after collecting the evidence they needed from the scene. An inquest docket has been opened by the police and the results of the investigation will be communicated to the next of kin in due course.”

The names of the family members and the deceased are being withheld for their privacy.
