A heartbreaking incident unfolded at New Canada Dam, Soweto, yesterday, when a child drowned while playing near the water with two other children.

Reports indicate the child accidentally fell into the dam, prompting a frantic rescue effort.

In a widely circulated voice note, a local resident urgently calls for assistance, pleading for someone to bring a rope to retrieve the visible body.

Xolile Khumalo of Gauteng Emergency Medical Services confirmed the incident, adding that the SAPS and provincial emergency teams were on the scene last night.
