Child pornography: 2 to appear in Mossel Bay Regional Court
Two men charged in separate incidents of possessing child pornography are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
A 25-year-old Da Nova resident is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Regional Court tomorrow on charges of possession of child pornography.
Mossel Bay Advertiser previously reported that he has been accused of possessing about 48 child pornography images, however, a new charge sheet has since been drafted and now states that 217 images were allegedly found.
The man was arrested at his home by members of the police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Mossel Bay on February 2.
He was denied bail on May 3, following an appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court, and he remains behind bars. The matter was postponed for today for a possible plea agreement.
In a separate matter, a 45-year-old man from Bothastrand, Great Brak River, is also expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Regional Court tomorrow, following his arrest earlier this year when investigators came across explicit child pornography, allegedly saved on his electronic devices.
The man last appeared in court on September 27 when the matter was expected to go ahead for a pre-trial conference, however, his attorneys withdrew from the case and another attorney was entered into the record to represent him.
The pre-trial conference could, therefore, not proceed and the case was postponed to today to allow the accused’s new representative to review the material and obtain docket copies, as well as receive instructions from the client, before moving forward.
The man is currently out on bail of R5 000.
