Christmas Eve tavern shooting in Mpumalanga: Firearm recovered, 2 arrested

Police have recovered the firearm and arrested two suspects after a DJ was killed in a Christmas Eve tavern shooting in Masoyi.

Following a fatal tavern shooting in Masoyi near White River in Mpumalanga on Christmas Eve, police have confirmed the missing firearm has been recovered and that two suspects, aged 21 and 28, were arrested on Christmas Day.

Lowvelder reports that one suspect is facing a charge of defeating the ends of justice, while the other has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

DJ killed after dispute over performance

DJ Mdu Ngoma (33) lost his life after his alleged killer, Swarelo Sibiya (28), reportedly insisted that Ngoma continue performing after his set had ended. The situation escalated, resulting in a shooting in which Ngoma was shot, allegedly by Sibiya who turned the firearm on himself.

Firearm to undergo ballistic testing

Police said the serial number of the recovered firearm had been filed off and the weapon will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether it was previously used in the commission of other crimes.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as investigations continue.
