Mpumalanga SAPS recovers missing firearm from Masoyi tavern shooting

Investigations continue after two suspects were arrested following a deadly tavern shooting in Masoyi near White River.

Following a fatal tavern shooting in Masoyi near White River on the night of December 24, police have confirmed that the missing firearm has been recovered and that two suspects, aged 21 and 28, were arrested on December 25.

One suspect is facing a charge of defeating the ends of justice, while the other has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A DJ, Mdu Ngoma (33), lost his life after his alleged killer, Swarelo Sibiya (28), reportedly insisted that Ngoma continue performing after his set had ended. The situation escalated, resulting in a shooting in which Sibiya allegedly shot Ngoma before turning the firearm on himself.

The serial number of the recovered firearm has been filed off and the weapon will undergo ballistic testing to determine if it has previously been used in the commission of crime. Police cannot rule out possibilities of adding more charges against the suspects in custody as investigations continue.
