City Power employees robbed: Man arrested in Roodepoort

Employees of the state-owned power utility are left traumatised after they were robbed earlier this month.

One suspect was arrested on Thursday during a crime prevention patrol in connection with the recent burglary of valuables from City Power (CP) employees.

A multidisciplinary team of security and police members were deployed to be on the look-out for a white Datsun Go after CP employees in Discovery were robbed on October 16, allegedly by its occupants.

According to CP spokesperson Isaac Mangena, as previously reported, two of the entity’s employees were robbed on Wemmer Street, allegedly by people in a white Datsun with the registration number HN 94 YK GP.

He noted the incident was reported to the local police for investigation. He added CP has arranged for the employees to receive counselling after being left traumatised by the ordeal.

“During the crime prevention patrol the vehicle was identified and an operational takedown was executed,” explained Help24 director Sheldon Grobler.

The police arrested the driver of the vehicle as well as confiscated the vehicle believed to have been used during the crime.
