Close family member arrested in Jayden-Lee Meek case

A female relative of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek has been arrested for his murder following an intensive police investigation.

A 31-year-old close family member of Jayden-Lee Meek (11) was arrested this morning and is currently in custody at the Roodepoort Police Station, Roodepoort Record reports.

This information was confirmed by the police’s provincial spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

According to Nevhuhulwi, the suspect, a woman, was arrested following extensive investigations by Florida detectives with the assistance of the Provincial Investigative Unit and Tracking Team.

Jaden-Lee was reported missing in May by his mother and was found unconscious the next day on the staircase of the Swazi’s Place flats in Fleurhof, where he was residing.

He was declared dead at the hospital.

“A case of murder was opened and police conducted investigations which led to the arrest of a woman,” Nevhuhulwi confirmed.

She is expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday on murder charges.
