Coalition politics to decide who runs Ladysmith
The EFF and DA are likely to be the two kingmaker parties.
It will be a case of coalition politics that decides who will run Alfred Duma Local Municipality after the IFP walked away with the most seats in council.
With a whopping 33 seats, they could oust the current ruling party, the ANC, who only managed to win 28 seats. This is the total with PR candidates.
Coalitions?
With the EFF getting five seats, the DA three and a host of smaller parties getting another four seats among them, who runs Ladysmith is truly up in the air.
In true coalition politics, both the IFP and the ANC will be scrambling to secure the support of the smaller parties. The EFF and DA are likely to be the two kingmaker parties.
Kingmaker?
Either one of them throwing their support behind the IFP will likely secure them the win.
The ANC will need both the EFF and several smaller parties to make it happen.
Good for the town?
With no party with an outright majority, no party can impose its will on the town. Compromise will be the way forward.
Any party unhappy with a decision can easily withdraw its support from the coalition.
