Coronavirus: Classes to resume at Grayston Preparatory School on 11 March after Coronavirus scare

Grayston Preparatory School will resume classes on Wednesday, 11 March 2020.

The school discontinued classes after it was discovered that a staff member was in direct contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19, Sandton Chronicle reports.

In a statement, the school said that its executive team has met with representatives of the Grayston School Board, the Gauteng Education Department, the Gauteng Health Department and the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa(Isasa) and have also taken independent medical advice.

Based on the advice received, the following actions will occur:

The staff member in question will remain in self-imposed isolation for the quarantine period. At this stage, she remains asymptomatic and in good health. She will take guidance from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on the protocol going forward.

“According to the experts, we reiterate that our staff, children and parents are, at most, secondary or tertiary contacts and so at very low risk,” said the head of Grayton Preparatory School, Ché McKay.

“We will follow a deep-cleansing process of the campus on Wednesday. The school will re-open on Wednesday and we look forward to the return of all our learners,” she said.

“On their return, children will receive age-appropriate guidance from their class teachers on general hygiene and precautionary measures in such situations. As per our school policy, if your child is unwell, it is always best to keep them at home and consult a medical practitioner.”
