Couple attacked, wife ‘raped’ in Pretoria farm attack

Two people have been arrested in connection with a farm attack that took place in Welbekend in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A couple was allegedly ambushed, the wife raped and their livestock stolen when three men overpowered them in their home in the east of Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said the incident took place at 01:30.

“The suspects took properties like lawnmower, laptops, cellphones and 10 sheep,” he said. “They also took the victim’s white Ford Ranger bakkie to load the properties.”

Makhubela said the group drove with the wife to their dwelling at the Waaikraal informal settlement where they offloaded the stolen goods. They then drove her to an ATM in Delmas where they tried to order her to withdraw money, but failed.

“After they failed to withdraw due to the premises being closed, they drove to a secluded place and gave the wife the car keys and ran away.

“The police with the assistance of the tracker people, managed to recover all robbed items including the 10 sheep,” Makhubela said.

One man was arrested at the scene and another was arrested at a later stage. Makhubela said the pair would be charged with house robbery, sexual assault and possession of suspected stolen property.

“The police are looking for the third suspect.”
