Couple die after shooting incident in KZN

Police who attempted to get the situation under control entered the property and found the couple bleeding on the floor.

A couple died this morning after a shooting incident at Hambanathi in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, believed to have been a murder-suicide incident.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers were dispatched to the couple’s residence at about 07:00 after community members reported hearing a woman screaming and shots being fired.

RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram, said other police officers were already at the scene attempting to get the situation under control and entered the home after the shots were heard.

“A man and woman were found on the floor, bleeding from gunshot wounds to their heads. A 9mm pistol was located between the two,” he said.

RUSA transported the woman to a hospital for treatment, where she was later declared dead.

IPSS Medical Rescue medics tried to the treat the man at the scene, but efforts proved fruitless.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
