Covid-19: 21 584 new reported cases, 382 deaths

An increase of 769 hospital admissions reported in the past 24 hours.

A total of 21 584 new cases of Covid-19 was reported in South Africa in the last 24 hours, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said earlier tonight (July 1). According to the NICD a further 382 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to 61 029 to date. “This increase of 21 584 new Covid-19 cases represents a 28.4% positivity rate. This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 1,995 556.”

It added that the cumulative number of recoveries were now 1,754 793. An increase of 769 hospital admissions were reported in the past 24 hours. Gauteng accounts for the majority of new cases – 12 806 (59%), followed by the Western Cape with 2 447 new cases (11%) and North West with 1 468 new cases (7%).
