The Bushbuckridge Local Municipality (BLM) has issued a public warning following recent sightings of crocodiles near the Inyaka River, particularly around the Maviljan Sewer Plant and surrounding areas, reports Lowvelder.

According to BLM spokesperson Fhumulani Thovhakale, the presence of crocodiles poses a serious danger to residents living nearby.

Community members are strongly urged to stay away from riverbanks and avoid engaging in activities such as fishing, swimming or washing in the river.

“Crocodiles are extremely dangerous animals and can pose a serious threat to human life. We urge all residents to take this warning seriously and prioritise their safety at all times,” she said

Thovhakale added that parents and guardians have also been advised to ensure that children are kept away from the river and are properly supervised, as they are particularly vulnerable.

The municipality emphasised that precautionary measures must be followed to prevent any potential attacks, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any further sightings to local authorities.

Community members are encouraged to co-operate fully with safety guidelines as the situation continues to be monitored.
