Silverton police arrested a 33-year-old man on possession of dagga charges after seizing drugs worth about R57 000 yesterday.

Tshwane police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk says when police were on patrol in the area yesterday, they noticed a suspicious white Nissan NP200 bakkie in Sterkte street, Nellmapius, and decided to tail the vehicle.

After several minutes, the vehicle was stopped. Police searched the vehicle and found a big black bag of 51kg dagga, with a street value of approximately R57 000.

“The man was arrested and will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court after being formally charged,” says Van Dyk.

The station commander welcomed the arrest and applauded the officers involved, he adds.

Current legislation says that while it is okay for adults to grow marijuana for personal, in-private use, it is not legal to sell or buy dagga from anyone.
