East police seized drugs, guns during arrests

Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk said police patrollers made the dagga bust after noticing a suspicious white Nissan NP200 in Sterkte street, Nellmapius.

Silverton police have arrested a 33-year-old man on possession of dagga charges.

Tshwane police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk said while police were on patrol in the area on Tuesday, November 28, they noticed a suspicious white Nissan NP200 bakkie in Sterkte street, Nellmapius.

He said the officers decided to tail the vehicle.

After several minutes, the vehicle was stopped and during a search, they found a big black bag of 51kg dagga with a street value of approximately R57 000.

“The man was arrested and will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court after being formally charged.”

He said the station commander welcomed the arrest and applauded the officers involved.

On Monday, November 27 in the east of Pretoria, police swiftly responded to information about suspected stolen vehicle and firearms.
Spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the team proceeded to the given residential address to search the premises.

“Upon searching the said premises, they found nine firearms – seven were pistols and two rifles – with more than 500 bullets and a VW Polo reportedly stolen during a house robbery in Silverton on November 26.”

Nevhuhulwi said three people were arrested and are expected in court soon.

The trio faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen motor vehicle.

She said firearms remained the weapons of choice in most serious and violent crimes committed in Gauteng and, as an effort to deal with the proliferation of firearms and remove them from the streets, Gauteng law enforcement would strive to seize the weapons and arrest those found in possession thereof.
