Dead body of man found in Centurion Lake
Two people have been taken to hospital after they were bitten by their pet snake in Durban on Monday.
Paramedics arrived at the Sea View residence to find that the pair had sustained snake bites to their hands while playing with their pet in the garden.
Rescue Care operations manager Garrith Jamieson said the injured residents were found lying on the floor with swelling on the affected areas.
“The paramedics contacted the poison unit and were given advice. Once stabilised, both patients were transported to a nearby hospital,” he said.
The snake was then captured and taken to a snake specialist at Ushaka Marine World.
In a separate incident, City of Cape Town staff working at landfill sites were offered training in snake identification and first aid for snake biteslast month.
Mayoral committee member for utility services Ernest Sonnenberg said 85 out of 142 staff members received certificates for the “Snake Out” course where trainees received hands-on venomous snake handling training.
