Dead monkeys sold openly on Mpumalanga roadside sparks probe

Men were spotted selling dead monkeys along KaNyamazane road as the parks agency launches an investigation into the shocking incident.

In a shocking sight, a group of men were spotted openly selling dead monkeys on the KaNyamazane Road outside Mbombela this morning.

According to Lowvelder, it is currently unknown where the monkeys were poached, but the men showed no fear in displaying their grim goods to passing motorists.

Simphiwe Shungube, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, said the agency was unaware of the incident but is taking the allegations seriously.

“We will need to confirm these allegations by sending our officials, who deal with compliance, to visit the location where the men were spotted selling the monkeys. We will then deal with the matter,” Shungube said.

He added that a team would be dispatched to investigate and that the perpetrators would be charged accordingly.
