Double life sentences for men who murdered couple in Putfontein

The families of the victims said they are relieved that justice has been served.

Malosi Gift Shima (25) and Ishmael Hlabathi (32) were each sentenced to two life sentences in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murders of Petit residents Johanco Fleischman (19) and Jessica Kuhn (21) on the Putfontein Road bridge on May 26, 2019.

Shima and Hlabathi, both from Cloverdene, were found guilty of two counts of murder each on April 1.

They were found not guilty on a third charge each, robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Fleischman and Kuhn were shot and killed while waiting for help after their vehicle ran out of fuel that fateful Sunday morning.

The couple, with two other passengers who fled the scene, were en route to Benoni from a pig farm in Kendal, Delmas.
