Double murder at Ekurhuleni primary school: Woman to appear in court

A woman arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two people at a school earlier this week will appear in court today.

Gauteng police have arrested a 26-year-old woman in connection with the fatal shooting of Enxiweni Primary School Principal Nozibele Tabu and administrative assistant Nobantu Njomboni.

Kempton Express reports that the arrest comes after the attack that shocked the Thembisa community.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the latest development to The Thembisan/Kempton Express.

“The police can confirm that a 26-year-old woman was arrested on November 19 and is expected to appear [in] the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on November 21 on charges of murder,” said Nevhuhulwi.

Tabu and Njomboni were fatally shot inside the administration block of the school on Tuesday at around 17:00, while preparing for a meeting.

Colleagues in a nearby office heard gunshots and hid until it was safe to come out. When they emerged, they found both women lying in the passage.

Emergency services were called immediately, but the two staff members were declared dead on the scene.

The incident prompted a visit from Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Education MEC Matome Chiloane, who met with the families and condemned the attack, calling for swift justice. Psychosocial support teams and employee wellness officials have since been deployed to assist traumatised learners and staff.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed.

Police investigations are ongoing.
