Drugs at Durban tuck shop? Owner in court
The owner of a tuck shop in Wentworth is expected in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, after his arrest over the weekend.
The owner of a tuck shop was arrested and charged for possession of drugs in Wentworth over the weekend.
Southlands Sun reports the members of the Relief B unit from Wentworth Police Station received a tip-off about the man who was allegedly selling drugs at his tuck shop.
Local police spokesperson Captain Mbuso Gumede says after the police received the information from sources, members proceeded to the flat in Basil February Road.
“On arrival the members demanded entry and the owner aged 67 granted permission to the officers. A search took place in his presence. Upon searching, the members found and seized various types of drugs,” adss Gumede.
The police recovered:
- 257 mandrax tablets
- 58 sachets of vodka
- 34 ecstasy tablets
- R1 550 in cash.
The accused was also charged for dealing in liquor without a valid licence.
“The accused was arrested, and taken to Wentworth Police Station,“ Gumede says.

- Dealing in liquor without a valid licence
The estimated street value of the drugs recovered is more than R15 000. The suspect is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court later today.
“Vispol commander Lieutenant Colonel Clive Myburg commended the police for their swift action in arresting the suspect and for the recovery of the drugs.
