Drugs destined for Gauteng recovered at Durban Harbour

Police are searching for suspects after R13m worth of suspected cocaine was found concealed in a compartment of a bus in KZN.

A police intelligence-driven operation recovered drugs worth approximately R13m at the Durban Harbour yesterday (May 5), reports Berea Mail.

KZN Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the search is underway for suspects linked to the bust.

“Following the recovery of drugs in Gauteng province in April this year, information indicated that the drugs entered the country through the Durban Harbour. Intelligence was activated and certain vessels were profiled,” Netshiunda said.

He added that during the operation, which involved officers from Durban Operational Response Services and Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, 32 blocks of suspected to be cocaine were recovered concealed in the air conditioning compartment of a bus.

“The buses were shipped from a South American country and were destined for Gauteng,” said Netshiunda.

Investigations are reportedly underway to uncover the suspects behind the shipment and the intended recipients.
