Duo in court after woman dies, man critically injured in Standerton attack

Two women appear in court after allegedly assaulting a couple with a cable, shovel and knife over money reportedly stolen at a party.

Two women are appearing in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today in connection with murder and attempted murder.

Ridge Times reports that, according to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the duo cornered a man and woman in Sakhile, accusing them of stealing R1 000 at a recent party they attended.

The victims were forced to one of the assailant’s homes, allegedly by the two women, where they were then assaulted with an electric cable cord, a shovel and a knife.

Ndubane says when the attackers realised the woman was unconscious, they took her to a nearby clinic where she was declared dead.

The deceased had fatal stab wounds on her back and several bruises on her body.

According to Ndubane, her injuries were so severe that her head was swollen. The man is currently in hospital. Although stable for now, his condition remains critical.
