Durban man in court for contravention of Medicines Control Act

On the day of his arrest, detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation along the M4 Freeway north bound.

A 20-year-old man appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court for contravention of the Medicines Control Act 101 of 1965 after he was found in illegal possession of Xanax tablets, recently.

On the day of his arrest, detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation along the M4 Freeway north bound.

Provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbele, said, “Following a rigorous investigation, police officers stopped a vehicle and conducted a search. During the search of the vehicle, police officers discovered 54 medicine containers labelled as Mylan Alprazolam (Xanax) covered with a big jacket.”

The man failed to produce necessary documents for the drugs when he was questioned.

He was immediately arrested and detained at the Umbilo police station.

Provincial commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula commended detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit for the arrest.
