Durban to host United Nations Day celebrations

The historic day is celebrated across the globe to commemorate the anniversary of the official creation of the United Nations.

Building  Back Together for Peace and Prosperity is the theme for the United Nations Day celebrations that will take place on Sunday, October 24 in Durban.

eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda said that hosting these celebrations was a catalyst to strengthen cooperation and relationships between the city and all of the UN agencies that work in South Africa.

“As the leadership of the city, we are committed to work with the United Nations to find lasting solutions as we continue to rebuild damaged infrastructure, accelerate economic recovery and defeat the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Kaunda.

He added that the city’s partnership with the UN is critical for the province’s efforts to build enduring peace and advance sustainable development.
