Elderly man (72) arrested for rape of neighbour (13)

LIMPOPO – The police in Musina have arrested a 72-year-old man for the rape of a 13-year-old girl at Matswale township phase 1, outside Musina.

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the man, who is the girl’s neighbour, is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court today (October 18).

“The mother of the victim reportedly arrived home from work on Thursday (October 14) afternoon and found the victim crying. The suspect raped the teenager in his house and promised to give her money,” his statement read.

He said the ordeal was reported to the police and the suspect was traced and arrested.

“The provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident in which ‘a vulnerable victim was subjected to this dehumanising conduct at an early age’. She also commended the police for their swift response in arresting the suspect,” Mojapelo added.
