Elderly man killed in his Pretoria home
No arrests have been made after a man, 71, was killed at his home in Waterkloof, Pretoria.
Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said a handyman, 30, discovered his elderly employer, Chris Johannes Orban at about 15.15pm on Saturday with head injuries inside the house on Banket Road, Rekord East recorded.
“The man noticed that his employer’s light green Hyundai Tucson, a mountain bicycle and a plasma television were missing. There was no forced entry to the house,” added Weilbach.
Weilbach said the injured man was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. According to Weilbach, it is alleged the old man brought a homeless man to his house earlier on Saturday.
His niece Liz Diederichs said: “The family is doing well despite what happened. We are all busy with his funeral arrangements, which is scheduled to be held next Monday.”
Anyone with information on the matter is urged to call investigating officer Warrant Officer Frank on 012-366-1764 or the Crime Stop number at 08600-10111.
In a separate incident, an elderly man was found dead outside his home in the Moorton area of Chatsworth, Durban, after what is believed to have been a house robbery in February.
Neighbours claimed the 80-year-old man was murdered by a house robbery suspect. He was also found with his belt missing, sparking suspicions that he may have been strangled to death with it.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Cheryl Pillay said the man’s nephew had returned home and found him lying on the floor. “He further noticed that the house had been burgled. There were no signs of any injuries on the deceased,” she said.
