Elderly woman fakes heart attack to scare off robbers

An elderly woman reportedly escaped a hostage situation after she faked a heart attack a during house robbery, causing the robbers to panic and flee the scene in Krugersdorp, on the West Rand.

The 74-year-old woman, Pat Watson, said three unknown men broke into her flat and her daughter’s house in Rantenbal last month, Krugersdorp News reported.

“My daughter was at work already. And at around 9am two men stood at my door,” Watson added.

In the video below, Watson describes how the suspects gained entry into her house.

“Initially, I thought they were construction workers. I did not realise what was happening until I got shoved on to my couch and told to be quiet while they ransacked the house.”

After keeping her inside her flatlet for over an hour, the suspects ordered her to her bedroom.

“I naturally thought the worst. But they reassured me that they will not hurt me. They said, ‘Look madam, we are not going to hurt you’.”

When Watson realised they were going to take everything valuable they could get their hands on, she realised she had to remove herself from the situation. She asked the suspect who was guarding her to leave her on the pavement.

“I told him that I was having a heart attack and that he should let go otherwise he will be charged not only for theft but for murder as well,” she said.

Watson said she put on the hysterical act of her life.

The suspect panicked, called the other two who were still ransacking her daughter’s house, and all three of them fled, leaving her alone in her flatlet.
