Visitors in the KNP had a frightening encounter with an elephant yesterday (May 22) when the animal pierced a South Post Kruger safari vehicle during a tour, reports Lowvelder.

Fortunately, no one was injured. The lodge shared details of the incident on its Facebook page.

“The bull walked past the vehicle calmly, but as he reached the front of the vehicle, he suddenly became aggressive and bumped it, with one tusk piercing the engine area. Our guide remained calm throughout the incident and handled the situation professionally with the guests,” the post read.

The lodge added that the incident serves as a reminder that wildlife encounters can change very quickly.

“Wildlife will always be wild, and while we take every precaution to respect the animals and keep our guests safe, nature remains unpredictable. We can use this as a learning lesson and a reminder to always respect these incredible animals and never underestimate nature,” they said.

KNP general manager for communications Rey Thakhuli said that SANParks is aware of the incident.
