Eleven TMPD officers arrested for assault

Eleven Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers have been arrested for assaulting three men on Friday. In a statement, the TMPD said the incident happened when the three individuals wanted to forcefully remove their vehicle after it was impounded by metro police officers on October 2.

“When TMPD was informed of these allegations, the TMPD internal affairs unit, that deals with the conduct of members, were immediately instructed to investigate this matter further to determine the possibility of an internal disciplinary process. The matter was given full attention and the TMPD fully cooperated with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID),” the statement read.

Further investigations led to the arrest of eleven TMPD members who were allegedly involved in the assault of the three men.

“We condemn such actions from our members. Internal disciplinary processes will continue amid these arrests. “As the TMPD we work very hard to rule out all kinds of corruption within the department,” TMPD said.
