Eskom escalates load-shedding to stage 6
A higher stage of power cuts will come into effect this afternoon.

Eskom will ramp up load-shedding from stage 4 to stage 6 from noon.
The power utility says the further escalation of power cuts is due to several breakdowns since midnight.
As a result, stage 6 will be implemented indefinitely from this afternoon.
Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 12:00 until further notice. This is due to a high number of breakdowns since midnight, as well as the requirement to strictly preserve the remaining emergency generation reserves. Eskom will publish a full statement in due course.

In stage 6, 6 000MWH must be shed, which is twice the amount shed in stage 3.
South Africa first experienced stage 6 load-shedding in 2019, but it was again implemented earlier this year, which so far has been the worst year for load-shedding in history.
